Space Invaders Movie

Space Invaders MovieThere's going to be a live-action movie adaptation of Space Invaders. Yep, the classic video game is going to make it to the big screen! Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura (a producer on the Transformers and GI Joe movies) and Odd Lot Entertainment's Gigi Pritzker have indeed bought the film rights to the property. They're currently looking for talented scriptwriters to develop a back-story for the film adaptation. The original game didn't bother to build any real back-story, it was all about shooting rows of goddamn alien invaders' spaceships.

For those who don't know Space Invaders, the original game was a two-dimensional fixed shooter game, first released in 1978, in which the player controlled a laser cannon by moving it horizontally across the bottom of the screen and firing at descending aliens. I'm kind of excited about this Space Invaders movie. If they have the right budget for the special effects and as long as they come with a reliable plot this could well be a blockbuster. I would not want to miss it, especially if they do it in 3D.
